Group of adults holding a proud to be a national PTA school banner

Patterson Mill Middle High School and the Patterson Mill Middle High School PTSA have been named a 2025-2027 National PTA School of Excellence, a national recognition honoring their work to strengthen family-school partnerships and improve the educational experience for every student.

Patterson Mill is one of only 321 schools and PTAs nationwide to receive the designation. It is also one of just five of Maryland’s 393 public middle and high schools to earn the recognition, roughly 1.3 percent statewide.

The National PTA School of Excellence program celebrates partnerships between PTAs and schools that work together to strengthen family engagement and build welcoming school communities.

Patterson Mill’s journey began with a shared commitment between the PTSA and school leadership. Families and community members provided feedback to help identify needs, set goals, and shape a plan of action. Throughout the 2025-2026 school year, the PTSA also took part in National PTA trainings, peer-learning opportunities, and ongoing communications to support the effort.

Over the past two years, the school expanded opportunities for community collaboration through health and wellness initiatives, resiliency programs, enrichment activities, and community events. These free programs gave students and families new ways to connect and build relationships. Surveys and other opportunities for input continued to guide the work throughout the process.

“This recognition reflects what is possible when our families, educators, students, community partners, and PTSA work together toward a shared goal,” said Dr. Domoniqué Hittner, President of the Patterson Mill Middle High School PTSA. “The designation is something our entire Patterson Mill community can celebrate, but more importantly, the work behind it has strengthened relationships that will continue well beyond the recognition period.”

Patterson Mill Middle High School and the Patterson Mill Middle High School PTSA will celebrate the designation on May 20, 2027. Community leaders, families, partners, and supporters will be invited to recognize the collaborative work behind the achievement, and additional details will be shared as the event approaches.
